SOLUTIONS // CUSTOMER APPS // RESTAURANTS & RETAIL

Customer app development for restaurants and retail, built for your regulars.

Customer app development for restaurants and retail is about the customers you already have. We build ordering and loyalty apps that let regulars order direct, earn rewards and reorder in two taps, from a menu that matches the till.

THE PROBLEM

What goes wrong today.

Restaurants and retailers pay to reach customers they already have. A regular who orders through an aggregator sits in the aggregator's records, each order carries a commission, and the business has little way to recognise or reward the person who buys from it every week.

Aggregators do one thing a single outlet cannot: they put you in front of people who have never heard of you. The cost shows when the same family orders from you every Friday through that app. You pay commission on an order you would have received anyway.

Inside the business, loyalty is a stamped paper card or a phone number keyed in at the till. Offers go out as one broadcast to the whole contact list, so the biryani offer reaches the vegetarian household too. The POS, the stock sheet and the online menu are kept by three different people. A customer orders a dish that ran out at eight, and the outlet phones to apologise.

An app of your own does not replace aggregators for discovery. It gives existing customers a reason to come direct: a quicker reorder, rewards that add up and an accurate menu. That is the aim of our customer app development work, and does your business need a customer app covers how to judge whether you have the repeat orders to justify one.

Signs it is time

  • Most repeat orders arrive through an aggregator
  • You cannot list your most frequent customers
  • Loyalty points live on a paper card or in the cashier's memory
  • One offer goes to every number on the list
  • Customers order items that sold out an hour ago

THE WORKFLOW

What the system follows, step by step.

An ordering and loyalty app follows the customer round one loop: install, browse a menu or catalogue that matches live stock, order for delivery, pickup or table, pay, track, earn and redeem, then reorder. The second order should take less effort than the first.

  1. 01

    Install at the counter

Customers find the app where they already meet you: a QR code on the bill, the table, the bag and the shop door, with a first-order reward. Sign-in is a phone number and a one-time password, which also links the app to any points held at the till.

  2. 02

Menu or catalogue from live stock

Items, prices, add-ons and availability come from the POS or inventory system for each outlet. When the kitchen marks a dish out or a shelf count reaches zero, the item drops off the app.

  3. 03

    Delivery, pickup or table order

The customer chooses delivery to a saved address, pickup at a time slot, or ordering from the table by scanning its code. The order appears in the kitchen or picking queue the way a counter order does, so staff do not retype it.

  4. 04

    Payment

UPI, cards and wallets go through a payment gateway under your own merchant account, with cash on delivery where you allow it. Failed and pending payments are reconciled automatically, so the kitchen does not cook against money that never arrived.

  5. 05

    Order tracking

The customer sees accepted, preparing, ready and out for delivery, with a rider location where the delivery partner provides one. The status answers the question customers would otherwise phone the outlet to ask.

  6. 06

    Rewards and reorder

Points or stamps are credited on every order, in the app and at the till, and can be redeemed at checkout. The home screen opens on the last order and the usual basket, so a regular repeats it in two taps.

WHAT WE BUILD

The modules this sector needs.

A restaurant or retail customer app needs a stock-aware menu, three ordering modes, a loyalty wallet shared with the till, targeted offers and an outlet console for staff. We build the customer side and the staff side together.

01

Menu and catalogue manager

Categories, variants, add-ons, combos and outlet-wise prices, with availability by time of day. A bakery's pre-order cakes and a supermarket's items sold by weight are item types of their own.

02

Delivery, pickup and table ordering

Delivery zones and charges per outlet, pickup slots with a preparation time, and table ordering by QR code that adds to an open bill.

03

Loyalty wallet

Points, stamps, tiers or cashback under rules you set, with one balance across the app and every outlet's till. Existing balances are imported against phone numbers, so regulars do not start from zero.

04

Segmented offers

Offers aimed by behaviour: lapsed regulars, lunch-only customers, households that buy a particular category. Each coupon has a budget, a validity window and a redemption report.

05

Outlet console

A tablet or web screen where staff accept orders, mark items out of stock, adjust preparation time and pause ordering when the kitchen is full.

06

Customer and order analytics

Order frequency, basket size, lapsed customers and offer redemption per outlet, drawn from customer records held in a database you own.

INTEGRATIONS

What it connects to.

A customer app is useful only when it agrees with the till. We connect it to your POS, kitchen display, payment gateway, delivery partners and messaging accounts, so an app order behaves like any other order in the outlet.

SystemWhat flows across
POS and kitchen display systemMenu, prices and stock flow from the POS to the app, and app orders flow back as bills and kitchen tickets. We confirm in discovery what your POS exposes.
Razorpay or your payment gatewayUPI, card and wallet payments and refunds under your merchant account. Clients in the UAE and Australia use a gateway that serves their market.
Delivery-partner APIsAn order ready for dispatch is passed to your own riders or to a third-party delivery fleet, and the rider status returns to the tracking screen.
WhatsApp Business API and SMS gatewayOne-time passwords, order confirmations and receipts, plus opt-in offers sent only to the segment they were written for.
Tally, Zoho Books, Xero or MYOBDaily sales, taxes, gateway charges and loyalty redemptions post to your accounting software by outlet.

QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED

Before you decide.

Is it worth building our own food ordering app?

It depends on repeat volume. An app pays back when a meaningful share of your orders comes from the same customers, since those are the orders you can move to a direct channel. A single outlet with mostly one-time customers is better served by aggregators and a basic web ordering page.

Can our own ordering app replace Swiggy and Zomato?

No. Aggregators bring customers who have not heard of you, and an app of your own cannot do that. The two work together: stay listed for discovery, and give customers who already know you a reason to order direct next time, such as rewards they earn only in your app.

Do supermarkets and pharmacies need a different app from restaurants?

The loop is the same, the catalogue is not. A supermarket or pharmacy has thousands of items, substitutions when a product is out, and baskets that repeat monthly, so search, saved lists and scheduled orders matter more than a photo menu.

Do we need a mobile app, or will a web ordering page do?

A web ordering page reached by QR code or link costs less to build and needs no install, and it suits table ordering and occasional buyers. A mobile app earns its place when customers order weekly, want notifications and collect rewards. Our note on mobile app development cost in India explains what drives the budget.
